In my Advanced Techniques class, I was asked to find two images where either the use of light enhanced the mood of the image, or where I couldn’t deconstruct how the studio lighting was achieved. Note that I made copies of these two photographs on a copy stand. I didn’t notice all of the dust on the glass cover until I was back home in front of my computer. C’est la vie. More after the jump…
While I’m not entirely convinced that Tim Tadder’s photograph is 100% real (the “breeze” flowing across his helmet and down the wind tunnel looks a little strange), the light certainly gives the image a sense of speed.
In the case of Peter Humfryes, I recognize that the Canon 1Ds Mark III was backlit–and top lit–but that doesn’t explain how the front of the camera is relatively free of detail except for the brightly lit “Mark III,” “EOS 1 Ds,” and Canon emblems, along with the rim of the 50mm f/1.2L lens.
