Well, in keeping with the spirit of this Thirty Days project, I made pictures yesterday. Out of keeping with the spirit of things, I didn’t get a chance to post them. C’est la vie.
Chris Dunn, Erin Schwartz, about four and a quarter million other photographers, and I descended upon the True/False film festival’s “March March” parade…which takes place in February. The parade itself was not terribly productive for me–I wasn’t prepared for it. But I loved this young woman, Ali Cooper, leaning against a traffic light, waiting for the parade to come to her. The only problem is that I’m not sure which image (and which crop) I prefer. They’re subtly different. I’m happy to hear your thoughts!
I prefer the one without the balloon. It’s cleaner and mo’ betta’ in my opinion
August,
I’m inclined to agree…and now that I’m looking at it again, it’s obvious that the first one is better. It’s also more my style with a clean(ish) background, good light, and without question about what/who the subject is.
I really couldn’t tell they were different–the first just looked like a crop of the second–until I noticed the balloon actually covered up something in that corner that was uncovered in the first.
I’m not sure if the balloon does much. The first one looks more straight-forward and I prefer how her eyes are looking more in the direction of the camera.
Scott,
That makes sense to me–I realize they’re similar frames, but I thought her gaze was slightly superior in the first image. I just wasn’t sure if that balloon added anything or not. Thanks!
